DormHealth Linens and How They Are Laundered
This post describes the linens currently included in the DormHealth Linen Plan, the materials they're made from, and how they're laundered.
What Residents Receive
Each enrolled resident receives a Twin XL bed set and a bath towel. The bed set includes a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and pillowcase.
Bath towels are 100% cotton. Bed linens are 100% polyester microfiber.
Materials
A variety of materials were evaluated with blind testing before the current selections were made.
Towels. Cotton was selected because its fiber structure absorbs and holds water, which is the primary function of a bath towel. Synthetic fibers tend to repel moisture rather than absorb it, so cotton remains the standard for towel construction across both consumer and commercial markets.
Sheets. Microfiber is woven from very fine synthetic fibers, making the fabric lightweight and quick to dry. A common assumption is that polyester-based fabrics sleep hot, but in resident testing the specific hotel-quality microfiber selected for this program was preferred over the cotton options for both breathability and softness. It is also well suited for repeated high-temperature commercial laundering.
Laundering
DormHealth linens are processed by a healthcare laundry facility that launders linens to standards typically used for hospitals and other care environments, which are generally stricter than those of a standard commercial laundry. After washing, linens are pressed at high temperature and folded for pickup.
No fragrance is added during the wash process.
A Note on Program Specifics
The details described above reflect the current standard for the DormHealth Linen Plan. Specific items, materials, and laundering practices may vary by program and may change over time. Residents should contact DormHealth Support or their housing provider for the most current information about the linens and services included at their location.
